Net-Worth Updates

Welcome to the page where I update and share our monthly net-worth.

The goal of this page is, mostly, to chart progress; I also secretly wish to empower and inspire others by showing you our progress while living our regular lives and making an average income.

Generally when you calculate net worth, you are supposed to take all of your assets, including the saleable value of your items, and minus the liabilities.

We calculate our assets (cash, savings, investments) leaving out the value of saleable items, such as our car. I don’t include items in our net worth that I don’t intend to sell. Then I calculate my liabilities (debt, including any loans and credit card balance) and minus this amount from my assets. This gives me mine and my husband’s net worth: all of our assets and all of our debt combined.

I track it monthly to keep motivated and to see whether we’re making progress. I use an app called “Wealth+” to input my numbers. It’s a simple tool I enter data into. It’s not tied to my accounts or anything. At the time of writing this post, the application “Personal Capital” is not yet available in Canada.

However, many of the final payments were due one month before our wedding.  A minor bump, but a huge relief to be able to cash-flow most of our wedding costs while still saving and paying down debt.
